The Martini with an Oliver Twist
The Martini with an Oliver Twist
“Please, sir, I want some more.” -Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist
The Martini with a Twist:
- 2 1/2 oz Gin
- 1 oz Dry Vermouth
- Lemon Peel
Stirred, Not Shaken-
First, use higher quality liquor for this recipe. I find if you gotta drink it straight, you better drink the stuff you like the taste of. Am I right? For this recipe I used a London Dry Gin. I prefer to stir this cocktail to chill it. I stir and not shake to prevent the ice from cracking and breaking, thus watering down the drink. No one wants a watered down cocktail. Again, am I right? To ensure a super chilled drink, you may even want to place the coupe class in the freezer prior to making it as well. Once thoroughly stirred, pour into a glass. I love the classic appeal of a smaller coupe or a Nick & Nora style glass. Next, finish this classic Martini off with the actual twist. Use a peeler and remove the outside zest of the lemon. Twist the peel over the cocktail to help release the essence and oils of the lemon into the drink, toss it in for good measure and sip your way to happy town (responsibly of course).
Food Pairing:
FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD! This song from the musical Oliver Twist reminds us that if we are enjoying a cocktail, we need something glorious to eat too. This weeks food pairing is oh so savory and fits our book club libation perfectly. The first time I had a sausage bite was at an English style pub in the Chicago area. The crunchy outside mixed with the savory sausage is filling and comforting. The best part? These Keto Sausage Bites fit the keto and low carb lifestyle too! Whip some up, stir up a Martini with a Twist and have yourself a very happy lil hour this Friday night! Cheers!
Bon Appeteach,
