Margarita Poppins: Low Carb Blackberry Jalapeno Margarita
Try this low carb friendly margarita infused with sweet and fresh blackberries and a little hint of spicy jalapeno for the perfect keto tequila cocktail.
Well, Bon Appeteach “Book Club” Friday happens to fall on National Margarita Day. Therefore, it would be a culinary tragedy if I didn’t oblige. Even though we are currently in our Prohibition cocktail series, the margarita was just shy of the prohibition era (it was actually invented in 1938). But, who cares that much… I don’t, thanks tequila.
This week’s book is the classic Mary Poppins. Considering Mary Poppins is a bit mystical and magical, I figured a margarita (made with lots of yummy tequila) would be the perfect vibe for this Friday’s happy hour.
So with a spoonful of tequila, read on for the full recipe for this easy to make, keto and low carb friendly margarita. Don’t forget to also check out all my low carb weekly food pairings to go with each cocktail (trust me you won’t want to miss this week’s either)!
Low Carb Blackberry Jalapeno Margarita:
- 2 oz. Tequila
- 1 oz. Lime Juice
- .25 oz Orange Juice
- 1 oz. Keto Blackberry Simple Syrup
- Sliced Jalapenos & Fresh Blackberries
- Salt for Rim
Shaken Not Stirred:
I’m a margarita on the rocks kinda girl. If you’ve made a good margarita, you don’t need to water it down like a slushy. Just my opinion (but for real, for real, I’m right).
The citrus rule of thumb here means, you need to shake this cocktail. Begin but muddling a few blackberries and jalapenos in the base of a cocktail shaker. Add the tequila, lime juice, orange juice, and the Keto Blackberry syrup. Shake over ice until chilled.
The orange juice here (or use zest) is to represent grand marnier or triple sec which are types of orange liquor. It has a great flavor, but unfortunately it also has a lot of sugar. Opting to use a little fresh oj or even some lemon juice will help brighten up the drink and keep the carb count low.
Use the lime rind to wet the edge of the glass. Line the rim with salt (optional) and place a large ice cube in the center. Double strain this cocktail to prevent the pulp and seeds from ending up with the glass. Garnish with either a lime wheel, blackberry, or jalapeno!
Food Pairing:
No margarita is good unless you have something to pair it with, and I decided on quite the food pairing. I recently had the weirdest craving for a Taco Bell crunch wrap (so not healthy and so not keto).
But, I was curious to see if I could make some of my own keto crunch wrap with my Keto Tortilla recipe. My goodness friends… I totally did just that (it actually tastes 1000 times better too).
All I did was quickly whip up some tortilla dough, roll it out and set it aside. I made cheese shells for the center to act as the “crunch”, prepped my fillings by cooking my own taco meat, diced some tomatoes and lettuce, and even made a super easy keto nacho cheese sauce.
Roll out one large tortilla (or 4 smaller ones). Fill and layer with all the fixings in the center then fold up the sides and fry it up in a little avocado oil! Serve with your favorite hot sauce and some extra cheese sauce or sour cream!

Ingredients
- 2 oz. Tequila
- 1 oz. Lime Juice
- .25 oz Orange Juice
- 1 oz. Keto Blackberry Simple Syrup
- Sliced Jalapenos & Fresh Blackberries
- Salt for Rim
Instructions
- In a cocktail shaker, muddle a few slices of jalapeno and a few blackberries. Add in the tequila, orange juice, lime juice, and keto blackberry simple syrup. Shake over ice until chilled and double strain into a salt rimmed rocks glass over ice. Serve.
