How To Make Keto Carolina Style BBQ Mustard Sauce
A classic Carolina gold BBQ sauce made sugar free and keto friendly. The perfect mustard base BBQ sauce for pork, chicken and more!
If you’re no stranger to my website or my Instagram, then you know my love for grilling by now.
Every BBQ lover or griller needs a slew of go-to sauces like this keto friendly KC Style Sauce, this low carb Alabama white sauce, and even a keto Texas style Mop sauce recipe.
While I love all of these sauces, this mustard sauce has my whole heart.
I love to BBQ year round (not just for summer) and this sauce is amazing on everything from my favorite pulled pork to crispy chicken wings (and everything in between).
With the popularity of keto and low carb eating over the last few years, it has definitely inspired several keto friendly BBQ products, but they sometimes can be hard to find in stores or seem to be fairly expensive.
Also, I’m just a fan of homemade cooking and this sauce is too easy to make too. So why not?

“School” Supplies:
- Small Pot
- Whisk
- Measuring Cups/ Spoons
“Class” Notes:
Not much to this one kids, literally dump some stuff in a pot. Stir, heat, repeat and voila. Yummy BBQ mustard sauce!
The best part is this sauce is made up of kitchen staples (minus the keto sweetener) and it has a really great texture.
I find that having a nice sweet and spicy balance to it also balances out the tanginess of the mustard.
To sweeten the sauce, I added my Keto Simple Syrup.
I like using this version of a syrup because it doesn’t re-crystalize (like other low carb sweeteners), has zero after taste, and gives it a nicer, shiny, consistency.
I also love adding my favorite BBQ rub to amp up the flavor. Many times store bought rubs have sugar in them (but often it’s so little) so use what you like or stick to a little smoky paprika, cayenne and tabasco to bring the heat.
Heat everything together in a pot. Once heated through, let it chill out for a bit to mingle and marinade.
Once set for a while, I like to store in a glass jar for up to a week! This sauce is great on chicken and pork!
