Supplies Needed

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Skillet
  • Baking Sheet

Big Mac Ingredients

Special Sauce:

  • Mayo: The base of the special sauce, mayonnaise provides creaminess and a rich texture. You can use regular or low fat mayo if you prefer.
  • Yellow Mustard: Adds tanginess and a bit of acidity!
  • Pickle Relish: Sweet and tangy, it gives the sauce that signature Big Mac flavor.
  • Yellow Onion: Finely minced and added to both the sauce and as a topping!
  • Pickle Juice: The brine from pickles is used in the special sauce for an extra punch of tangy flavor.
  • Paprika: Adds a mild, earthy warmth to the special sauce!
  • Garlic Powder: For a savory depth of flavor.
  • Salt & Pepper: To taste.

Burger Mixture:

  • Ground Beef: I used lean ground beef to minimize excess grease while still retaining flavor and juiciness.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: Adds a deep, savory umami flavor to the beef!
  • Dried Onion Flakes: Provide a mild onion flavor that infuses the ground beef mixture evenly. They also add a bit of texture!
  • Garlic Powder: Enhances the flavor of the beef with a subtle garlic kick!
  • Salt & Pepper: To taste.
  • Cheddar Cheese: Grated cheddar is mixed into the beef for extra flavor and moisture, helping the mixture stick together.

Toppings:

  • Slider Buns: Using a mix of top and bottom buns mimics the layered effect of a traditional Big Mac.
  • American Cheese: Melts beautifully over the beef!
  • Yellow Onion: For a bit of texture and flavor on top!
  • Pickle Slices: Dill pickles add a crisp, tangy crunch that contrasts with the soft buns and rich beef.
  • Romaine Lettuce: Shredded and added for freshness and a bit of crunch
  • Melted Butter: This is optional, to brush the tops of the buns with melted butter adds a rich flavor and helps the sesame seeds stick.
  • Sesame Seeds: For an authentic Big Mac look and a slightly nutty flavor.

How To Prepare Big Mac Sliders

Special Sauce:

  1. Make the Sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine the mayo, mustard, pickle relish, pickle juice, and spices. Mix well with a whisk and set it aside.

Burger Mixture:

  1. Combine Beef Mixture Ingredients: In a large skillet, add the ground beef over medium-high heat. Break it up in a skillet with a spatula and then add in the dried onions, salt, pepper, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Brown the Beef: Cook the ground beef until fully browned through. Remove it from the heat and transfer the beef to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess fat and set aside.
  3. Add the Special Sauce & Cheese: Add 1 cup of the special sauce, the 1/2 cup grated cheese, and the ground beef into a bowl and mix it well so it’s fully combined. This adds flavor and moisture to the ground beef and it also will keep the ground beef together.

Assembly and Baking Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat the oven to 350 F. and lightly grease a baking sheet with nonstick spray or add parchment or foil to prevent sticking.
  2. Prep the Buns: Take one package of slider buns and divide it in half so you get two sets of six buns that are connected. Repeat this with the other package of buns (you will only need one set of six from the other package so you can save the other set for another use – this will give you the layered bun effect for a classic Big Mac). Cut all three sets of six buns open lengthwise and set the buns aside.
  3. Place Side by Side: Place four sets of buns (I use three bottoms and 1 top) so they are side by side on the baking sheet and cut side up.
  4. Add Beef Mixture: Divide the ground beef mixture up into four portions and add it to each set of the buns in an even layer.
  5. Top with Cheese: Next, add the American cheese slices over the top, three slices fit for each set of buns.
  6. Bake: Bake the slider buns to melt the cheese, uncovered on the baking sheet for 15-20 minutes. Make sure the cheese melts and the buns don’t harden or burn.

Toppings:

  1. Prep Fresh Toppings: While the sliders are baking, shred the lettuce and set aside the pickles and minced onions for topping.
  2. Remove from Oven: Remove the sliders from the oven and begin the assembly.
  3. Add Toppings: For each set of six buns add 1/4 cup of minced onions over the melted cheese, add the pickles, and then 1 cup of shredded lettuce. Add 1/4 cup or so of the special sauce over the lettuce.
  4. Layer: To layer the Big Mac sliders, carefully use a large spatula to lift and add one prepared bun layer over the other. Repeat this with the second set. You will now have two double-decker layers of buns with all the meat, cheese, sauce, and toppings.
  5. Add Top Buns: Finish off the sliders by adding the two slider top bun portions, press down, and brush the tops with melted butter and sesame seeds if desired.
  6. Cut, Serve & Enjoy: Cut and separate the sliders with a sharp knife, serve and enjoy!

Helpful Tips

  • Don’t skip the special sauce! The special Big Mac sauce is what gives these sliders their signature Big Mac flavor. I wouldn’t skip the sauce, or else it just won’t taste like a Big Mac!
  • Watch the baking time. Keep an eye on the sliders while they bake to ensure the buns don’t dry out or burn. You want the cheese melted and the buns slightly toasted, but not too hard.
  • Use a large spatula for layering! When stacking the layers of these Big Mac sliders, use a large, flat spatula to carefully lift the buns and meat mixture. This will help keep everything intact and avoid a mess!
  • Switch up your toppings. Feel free to switch up the toppings and add pickled jalapeños for a spicy kick or tomato slices for some added freshness!
  • To make ahead, prepare the beef, sauce, and toppings, and keep them separated and refrigerated. Rewarm the beef to remove the chill in the microwave and then add the sauce per the instructions (do this after microwaving so the mayo base doesn’t separate and make it oily). Then assemble everything and bake as needed.
