How To Make A Singapore Sling Cocktail

Singapore Sling Cocktail

Learn how to make the classic tiki era gin cocktail, the Singapore Sling. A refreshing drink made of fruit juices, three different liquors, and a London dry gin.

The Singapore Sling is a classic cocktail with a long history. Ngiam Tong Boon first invented it in 1913 and developed the original recipe to serve at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore.

The cocktail itself probably originated around that same time as a way for sailors visiting to enjoy their own version of Singapore’s famous “sling” drink.

Over time, the recipe has changed many times but still remains one of my favorites.

How Do You Make It?

This cocktail has a lot of ingredients that really just require some simple measuring, pouring, and shaking in your cocktail shaker.

To the shaker add your three citrus juices- pineapple, lemon, and lime. Then add the three liqueurs- cherry, orange, and the Benedictine.

Finally, pour in your gin and a few dashes of the angostura bitters. Add the ice and shake until chilled.

How To Serve:

Strain into a collins glass over crushed ice and then top with club soda. I like to garnish with my homemade maraschino cherries and a dried pineapple wheel.

The classic cocktail books call for the Singapore sling recipe to usually have a lemon twist; either work here!

What does a Singapore Sling taste like?

Despite having three different liqueurs and gin in this drink, it actually doesn’t taste “too boozy”. There is a long going on however considering how many ingredients there are.

This cocktail is slightly sweet from the pineapple juices and the Grand Marnier. It also is a little dry and tart from the gin, cherry brandy, lemon, and lime.

I find the club soda over the top cuts it nicely and gives everything a little bubbly effervescence as you sip and enjoy.
